Jennifer Hauth - Head Counselor

The Common Application:
This year the Common Application includes over 200 selective colleges and universities. Applicants may complete one Common Application form, copy it, and send the form to any participating colleges. Many individual colleges have a supplemental section. Students may download the application or apply online at www.commonapp.org. All participating schools pledge to give equal consideration to the Common Application and the college's own form.

Transcripts:
You should allow a minimum of one day when requesting a transcript. It is necessary to request a transcript if your counselor is filling out a secondary school report for your college. The transcript will be sent with the recommendation form. It is not required to send a transcript with a UC or CSU application, since the universities use the self-report on the application to make their evaluation. Transcripts will be sent at the end of the school year. Some CSU's may require sixth semester transcripts for students who have lower than 3.0 GPA.

The CSS Profile that many private colleges require is available in theCareer Center. There is a fee for registration and each college listing, so check first to see if the schools to which you are applying require the PROFILE. Registration may be through the Internet at www.collegeboard.com, or through the toll-free number (1-800-778-6888) Students will receive applications that are customized for the school to which they are applying.

    Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship is a work force training concept, which is designed to prepare an individual, generally a high school graduate, for occupations in the skilled trades and crafts. An Apprentice is an individual who develops marketable job skills in a structured training program. Apprenticeship is similar to college in that it may take one year or as many as seven years to complete a program depending on which trade is chosen. Most Apprenticeship programs are three to five years in length, similar to a four year bachelor's degree program. There are, however, several differences between college and an Apprenticeship.

    * An Apprentice is an employee who receives an hourly wage and other benefits while learning a craft/trade.
    * The vast majority of training occurs on-the-job, and is supplemented by classroom instruction.
    * The Apprentice works side by side with an experienced craftsperson or "journeyperson".
